8 Steps To Winning Scholarships

Each year, millions of dollars in scholarships are awarded to student across the country to support their college dreams. We truly believe each student possess the academic, talent, or community leadership skills it takes to win scholarships. Since scholarships help to increase access and success in college, it is essential to learn how to create a winning application. Check out our 8 Steps To Winning Scholarships below!

1. Begin Your Search Early

Most scholarship applications require various documents such as letters of recommendations and essays. The sooner you begin, the more likely you are to successfully complete the application before the deadline.

2. Understand The Different Types of Scholarships

There are many different types of scholarships available such as academic, athletic, community service, need-based, and talent-related scholarships. You may qualify for various scholarships!  Apply for the scholarships you are best suited for by carefully reviewing the eligibility requirements.

3. Make a List of Scholarships

Create an electronic list in google drive of scholarships, websites, and deadlines to stay organized during the application process. For each scholarship, outline all the required documents and give yourself enough time to create or collect them.

4. Check College Website for Internal Scholarships

Internal scholarships are provided directly from a college or university. By visiting their website you can see which scholarships are being offered to determine your eligibility.

5. Get Support From Your College/Guidance/School Counselor

Counselors are familiar with the scholarship application process and can provide you with the support you need to enhance your application. They may also have access to additional scholarships that you are eligible to apply for.

6. Invest Time in Your Application

Applying to scholarships while managing your classes can be challenging. Be sure to dedicate enough after school/weekend hours to move through the scholarship application. Aim to complete the application before the deadline, to allow time for proofreading and potential edits before submission.

7. Have a Trusted Person Proofread Your Application

A trusted person can help to identify any grammatical or spelling errors. They can also provide suggested edits to help make your application stand out!  Consider asking your parents,  teachers, counselors, principal, internship supervisors, or mentor.

8. Do Not Give Up

You can apply to as many scholarships as you want there is no limit. Millions of dollars are awarded in scholarships throughout the country each year! Apply! Apply! Apply!
